Thatch is that spongy mat of grass clippings, stems and roots that exists just below the grass blades of your lawn. It may feel good to walk on, but it is detrimental to the health of your lawn. A thick thatch layer can suffocate your lawn.
A thin layer of this organic growth can be helpful, but a thick barrier limits the amount of moisture, air and nutrients that are needed for a healthy root system. Straw Hat Lawn & Landscape uses specialized equipment to break up that mass and allow your grass to grow thick, lush and beautiful.
De-thatching removes the thatch only at the surface of the soil, by slicing it, instead of tearing. This is a more gentle method of removing thatch than power raking and results in healthier turf.
